Lifestyle Challenge: The “Perfect” Fridge

Your refrigerator works hard for you, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, keeping your food fresh and safe!

When was the last time you treated it to a good scrub?

This week I’m challenging you to treat your fridge to a good cleaning!

A basic rule of thumb is to:
🍏 Inspect the contents weekly, removing anything that’s spoiled and wiping down any spills
🍓 Thoroughly clean your fridge with the change of each season

Use a natural, gentle cleaning solution for your refrigerator.

Or, you can make your own by mixing 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a quart of water.

If you do use a harsher cleanser, make sure it’s food safe and doesn’t contain any strong scents that your food will absorb.

The “Perfect Clean” Fridge Guide:

🍑 Remove everything from the refrigerator (including the shelves!)
🍋 Tossing anything expired, or that you don’t need
🍇 Let the shelves and bins come to room temp and wipe down the inside of your fridge with the baking soda mixture.
🍉 Use a damp cloth to wipe away the cleaning solution, and then dry with a clean towel
🍏 Use more of the baking soda/water solution and soak the shelves and bins
🍓 Dry your shelves and bins and return everything to the refrigerator.

Voila! Your fridge will look great when you’re finished.

Are you in? Comment below! Take a picture of your sparkling refrigerator! (Even better, take before/during/after pix and share your project with us! No judgement, promise!)

Six Trainer Tips for Maximizing Your Program

You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.”

~ Stephen King

Your trainer can do a lot for you, and well they should – that is what you pay them for after all! But there are some things that YOU must do in order to maximize the benefits from the work you putting in, before you can display any dissatisfaction with your program or lack of results.

Six Things You Must Do To Get The Most Out Of Your Program!

#1 – Foam Roll!

Before. After. At home while you watch TV. On the weekends. Foam rolling is maybe your best tool for preventing injury during workouts, improving your mobility so you can ingrain new functional movement patterns that will last, and improving recovery after workouts! Roll muscle bellies, avoid ligaments, tendons, bony processes and soft areas.

#2 – Do Your Homework!

The buck does not stop with foam rolling before sessions, consider adding mobility work into your daily routine to help open up your problem areas and allow you better movement. Your trainer should already know your tighter, less mobile areas so just ask for some suggestions. Froggers/Quad Rocks for tight hips; Inchworms for hamstrings; Lat Activation for shoulder mobility, etc.

#3 – Acknowledge Your Limitations!

There is ALWAYS a way to regress a movement pattern so that you can be more successful at it. It’s one thing to challenge yourself – and of course you should; it is another to force yourself into an injurious position you are not ready for! To push yourself beyond your limits will reduce and not expand them, working within the edge of your ability is how we get stronger without setbacks, complications and extreme hardship! It has to feel like work, but it doesn’t have to feel like suffering.

#4 – Ask for Progressions!

If you find yourself complacently meandering through a movement wondering why you are wasting your time, point it out to your trainer! We know sometimes people don’t want to be spotlighted or viewed as a show-off, but more than likely if it’s THAT easy you are probably missing a key point of the exercise. Help us help you by keeping open communication about what you’re feeling. Which brings us to our next tip…

#5 – Give Us Feedback!

Let us know what you like or don’t like, and WHY – If you don’t like it because it just feels too hard, maybe it’s time to talk about regressions so you can feel successful. If it hurts your back, knees, neck etc most likely something has gone awry with your movement pattern or a latent injury is rearing its head – both of which your trainer may be able to figure out ways to work around and ultimately help you overcome!

#6 – Do Your Part In The Kitchen!

All the training in the world won’t compensate for poor diet, and we have numerous blog posts that can help steer you in the right direction there. Whether you want to lose weight, bulk up, improve your athletic performance or just reduce your risk of developing the major diseases (CVD, Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, etc.) a major component of reaching your goals is going to be what you put into your body when you are not with your trainer.

We can’t push you to be your best if you are dehydrated or if you are dizzy due to low blood sugar or sluggish due to a belly full because you ate 20 minutes before your session. Get to know your body, try different things and see what works best for you! Below are some resources for more information on nutrition!

Success is now here!!!

How do you process information? Do you see success in all things? What do you see?

After completing a personality survey this week I’ve learned something new about myself. As it turns out, I’m an optimist! Who would’ve thought? Certainly not my friends, who see me as a pragmatic problem solver! Yes, I see the forest for the trees. I think fast and want change fast. Am I a bandwagon hopper? No—but, if opportunity knocks, I’m answering! That’s right! To the dismay of my staff and my team, sometimes when a conversation takes a turn, I say….KEEP TURNING, because THAT’S WHEN CREATIVITY FLOWS!

My unofficial job description is “Pot stirrer”—SO funny, but true… I have a great team of professionals that find this not so funny! But I’ve made it my life’s work to surround myself by people smarter and more gifted than I am. I work with people who are impeccably organized (I am fair), people who are extremely fit (I am envious), those that know science behind fitness and nutrition (I read their books and attend their seminars), those that know accounting and taxes and legal terminology (I envy you).

So… what did you see in the statement above? I saw SUCCESS IS NOW HERE.

It’s time to change your mindset. We are all presented with the same information and sometimes it depends on how you process it. For example, our new AMP’D program is VERY strength intense. It is dependent on science that proves that muscles burn fat and increase your metabolism and your result long term will be fantastic. Yet old school thinking says you need cardio to lose weight.

Friends, change your mind set. Muscle, over the long term will change your metabolism and help you keep the weight you’ve lost off. Science is on my side. SUCCESS IS NOW HERE. Does it matter what you eat? Does it matter when, how much, calories, fitness, genetics, etc.? Yes, it still does. However… choose success!

Choose to embrace change and to embrace a concept that will work for you. Ellipse Fitness may not be the answer for everyone but I sincerely believe it’s the answer for many.

Friends, that’s my mindset. SUCCESS IS NOW HERE. No more excuses. See your goals, but make them your vision. See yourself where you want to be. Successful at fitness, successful at business, successful at the business of fitness or the business of life. You have the answers or they’re close at hand. It’s time to listen and focus and stop making excuses. It’s time for success…now.

People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing! Dale Carnegie

LOVE this quote! Life is FUN, isn’t it!?! Do you think so? Really?  Sometimes I DON’T think so…and usually, that’s when problems occur.

I think working out is FUN!  I like to sweat and burn calories and I especially love those darn kettle bells, even though I’m extremely challenged by them!  I have succeeded in finding a work out that I enjoy!  For that, I actually feel lucky!  What if I didn’t like it and it was a challenge EVERY DAY to workout for an hour?  Instead, I look forward to that time for me!

BUT, I DON’T enjoy cooking.  For me, it is not Fun.  It is work. Which means…I don’t feel successful when I cook.  SO–I’m turning over a new leaf and I’m going to try cooking with a new attitude! Perhaps with my children involved, as so many experts suggest.  Maybe I’ll attempt to embrace 2 new recipes found on the new website and give a full report to my Ellipse classes so i can be accountable? HMMMM….What do you suggest?

Do you have a challenge that could possibly be conquered just by changing your attitude?  Please share it, I’d love to hear your challenges BUT especially your solutions!
